In 2016 I had my third child ar this hosp, then it was under special measures and in hindsight I believe all of the staff going above and beyond back then was in a bid to get patients positive feedback and in turn impact reports about this hospital. Again 2018 I decided to have my baby here via elective c-sect and this is perhaps one of the worst experiences I have had in a hospital setting.
From the doctor who performed the surgery openly complaining about my last minute decision about a tubal ligation I had previously requested and decided against and finally decided to have, to extremely patronising midwives who kept acting like they were doing a massive favour. Imagine having to ask for your wound to be checked, having to take it upon yourself to monitor drips administered to you because the machine keeps stopping and starting and you are simply tired of buzzing a midwife who simply cannot be bothered to have someone look at this drip infusing machine. So rather than have the night resting and tending to my baby, I kept restarting this machine every time my drip supply Stopped!. I imagine if something were to go wrong I would have had myself to blame as nobody could be bothered to ease this sudden burden off me.. It's such a shame the more experienced hands continue to leave the NHS . However,Most of the maternity support workers were fantastic and you would have thought they were the midwives infact, they were always willing to go above and beyond with the exception of a few but that's understandable because at the end of the day this is not a profession for everyone some people just find themselves there out of no choice.
I had initially thought of contacting PALS to detail my experience and open a complaint too but I would rather put this sad episode behind me and hope that this hospital doesn't fall into special measures again.
"Absolutely awful experience"
