"Taking blood for testing"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / General medicine

(as a student nurse),

I went to the hospital for blood test, while there the nurse asked me to straight my hand. As she was attempting to take my blood, she ended up attempting more than nine times without finding my vein.

My moment is sadness came as a result of her failing to communicate with me I think she lacks both therapeutic and interpersonal relationship skills. Instead of her showing empathy, I felt that she was rather blaming poor body.

In my secret skull of anger and frustration, there came another nurse who perhaps saw my ordeal, ask the nurse who her continue presence made me notion of sickness worse than  it was before my coming for the blood test. Thanks to this senior nurse expertise as she drew blood  just for only one attempt.

I think that sometimes in life, we have got to call for help and accept our weaknesses and we surely have got to be bold to ask for someone to do it for us. Nursing practice should be holistic and exhibit the NHS 6 C’s.

I felt like she blamed me for her lack of expertise. Despite that ugly incident, I still have confidence in the nursing profession.
