"Help for the deaf"

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital / Rheumatology

My father is profoundly deaf, whilst he is physically able, he must be accompanied on every trip to the QE2 hospital as he cannot hear his name being called.

Recently he has been seen by X-ray, ultrasound, blood test, rheumatology outpatients and audiology(!!!) None of the departments has any kind of visual aid for alerting patients that it is their turn.

I find it astounding that a new facility, such as the QE2 hospital has failed to make allowance for the deaf. Many Gp surgeries have a visual message system to call patients, so the technology does exist. Please consider making a reasonable adjustment to assist this group of patients.

I would like to say that the care Dad has received from clinical staff has been exemplary and I also think that the hospital is very clean.

Thank you for your feedback and raising this important issue with us. We will make sure your review is shared with senior colleagues in those departments at the hospital, but we would also encourage you or your father to flag the issues with staff there so they can make suitable accommodations. If your father is a regular visitor to the hospital, then you can drop us an email to generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net with his details (name, date of birth, address and NHS number) and we can make sure our colleagues are aware for you. We are pleased to hear that our our clinical colleagues looked after your father well during his visit.
