"Disappointing poor quality care yet..."

About: King's Mill Hospital

What I liked

My husband was assessed promptly by the nurse in the 'walking-in patients' area and transferred to the main emergency department cubicles.

What could be improved

For the first time ever we have walked out of an ED this morning after receiving the most appalling care. After being transferred to the main ED area we waited over 3 hours without any contact, greeting or assessment by staff who continually walked past the cubicle without ever acknowledging our presence. On first arrival my husband reported his pain score as a '7' out of 10, this was never assessed or actioned further. While it was clear that an emergency situation developed after about an hour of our visit, this lack of common decency and basic care is inexcusable. I also overheard one member of staff asking another if they were 'ok' being involved in the emergency situation, to which they responded, 'yeah I'm loving it'! Not what I believe is a professional response to be shouted out within any NHS department. Unless we have absolutely no option in the future I will take my family to QMC.
