I was sitting on the edge of my bed waiting for my medication when a member of staff came up to me and asked if I had had a wash. I said no I am waiting for my medication and then I am going to have a shower. She then asked if I had my own pajamas and I said no I was wearing NHS pajamas. She then told me I was to get my own pajamas and toiletries. She then reached over to my NHS pajama too which was on the chair and said you won't be needing this and put it in the laundry bag. She said I may as well give her the pajama bottoms too! Then she walked away. I took my tablets sitting just in my boxer shorts. I then used my nebulizer. About 15 minutes into using my nebulizer she returned asking again if I had had a wash. I had not had time but to save being chastised by her I said yes. She said that's good, o you won't be needing these..at which point we picked up the clean towels, clean boxers, clean NHS pajamas and NH soap and threw them into the laundry bag. I sat there in my boxers in shock that I had been left without anything clean to put on and thinking what would of happened if it ad been a male member of staff and a female patient ? She came back after about ten minutes and picked my half full jug if water up saying is that all ihad drunk ? I told her I had already had 3 cups of orange juice and a carton of juice to which she said .. Orange juice is not liquid! Off she went again . I sat for a few minutes and then poured the remaining water in my jug away. When I saw her walking past I tapped the window and showed her the empty jug. She came into the ward and I told her to get me some more water to which she said ... That's a good little boy !! I went to the nurses station to ask to use the phone. I telephoned my partner and told her to buy pajamas as I was not allowed to wear the NHS ones and to also get toiletries as I couldnt used the hospital ones. The nurses station fell silent as I told my partner the circumstances I was in.
After the telephone call from my partner who was in hospital, I went out to buy pajamas and toiletries. This was at 11am. I went in for visiting hours at 3pn and was horrified to fine my partner still just sat in his boxers some 4 hours later!! I was also very concerned that since my previous visit his whole persona had changed. He seemed distraught and distant and whereas prior to this episode he had been happy to being in hospital getting treatment for a serious respiratory complaint and getting better he now wanted to leave and return home!!!
