"Ante Natal Clinic needs to change to..."

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital

What I liked

Currently 32 weeks pregnant I am posting my comments based on care received so far because I was concerned initially by some of the bad reviews and personal experience at the ante-natal clinic.

I was taken into Queen Charlottes as an emergency at 26 weeks with suspected PE and they were absolutely fantastic. The doctors, mid wives, registrars, nursing assistants all did everything in their power to inform me of everything that was going on.

The treatment and care was extremely thorough. They took absolutely no chances whatsoever with mine or babies health.

I stayed 4 nights on the Edith Dare ward and found the care exceptional, the toilet and showering facilities are clean and tidy. The midwives are caring, informative and do a great job looking after patients.

As someone with an existing health problem I regularly see the obstetricians in the Fetal Care unit. Again, this unit is fantastic! The doctors are great, the appointments are kept I've not had to wait at all to be seen. And you aren't rushed out of the door. They genuinely are very very caring and thorough.

Also the ultra sound department has been excellent. No long waiting times when you have an appointment. Thorough checks and the staff I've met with have been more than happy to answer lots of questions and explain what they are looking at.

The Ante Natal classes have been very informative, the tour was useful and I'm pleased to have had these.

What could be improved

My first experience of Queen Charlottes was tainted terribly by the ante-natal clinic.

The receptionists are rude, there is more often than not a 2 hour waiting time with no explanation given when you check in.

I don't think it would cost anything for this first impression to be improved as it scares the life out of a pregnant woman.

I left one appointment in tears feeling that I had no care at all. It was disorganised, the staff were rude and i was left feeling that if this was how the hospital was run then I did not want my baby born there.

This unit really should reflect the amazing work the rest of the hospital does.

Anything else?

Overall a really fantastic hospital.

I will post a comment regarding my experiences of labour and after care when baby arrives.
