"Experience made so much more bearable"

About: Strathcarron Hospice / In-Patient Unit

(as a relative),

From the very first second we walked in to Strathcarron we felt that as a family we would be well looked after. I cannot express how thankful we are that my Dad got to spend his remaining time in such a peaceful environment.

From the doctors, nursing team, domestics, reception and volunteers we were made to feel part of one big family. We all knew why we were there but the experience was made so much more bearable knowing that my Dad was not in any pain and that he was being looked after by what we can only describe of as angels!

I felt utterly petrified of my Dad dying but I knew that he was being cared for by the best and treated with so much dignity, nothing was ever a bother. Myself, my mum and my sister spent pretty much all our time in the hospice and my mum even slept on the spare bed for his final week and we took my three children there daily and we never felt a burden.

In my Dad's final couple of days I really didn't know what to expect but the team were there to support us through and it turned out to be so peaceful. My dad only passed away in Nov 2017 and it is the hardest thing I have ever had to go through and continue to struggle with daily but we continue to be supported by the wonderful strathcarron family. Xx

Dear dinnes

Thank you very much for your appreciative post. Condolences to you all as a family as I see that you are still very early in your bereavement.

It is important to us - across all our care services, that we care not only for the patient, but their family (however large or small) as well. We very much value knowing that you were all able to feel that support and that it had helped you cope with what has been a most difficult experience, in losing your dad.

I hope you are all able to continue to support each other in these months ahead and we are reassured to know that you are still benefiting from Hospice support.

Thank you again for your welcomed comments, I will share these with the Team.

Best wishes

Lesley
