About: Basildon University Hospital

My grandad was moved to this ward at 10pm last night, nurses had placed his bags on his legs whilst moving him, to which there they stayed until 1am causing pain to his legs as he is unable to move. After pressing his buzzer several times, eventually a nurse come and he explained he was busting for the loo, she abruptly told him that there are 24 other Paitents on the ward and that he’d have to wait. Because of this he messed himself. A while after he was taken to the toilet - which had no lighting and left sittting on the toilet in the dark for what felt like an hour. He said he was frightened because he couldn’t see or find the cord to call for help.

Apparently the light has been reported but rather than using another toilet, they’re simply leaving the door open slightly for everyone else to see! Before bed, he was given a hotchocolate as his blood sugar levels were extremely low - this was left out of reach and was still there at 9am this morning! My nan had received a phone call from a very proud man, crying because of the way he was treated. The staff were asked to flush his catheter through this morning due to pain and irritation, that didn’t happen until 5pm! when this was brought to the attention of the staff nurse, he attitude was defensive and uncaring. I intend to push this complaint through further because if there are 24 other paitents - I can only imagine how they’re being treated!
