"Errors and inefficiency"

About: Upton Group Practice

It is very stressful trying to get an appointment. You have to call at 8.30am when I am travelling by train to work. You then can only get an appointment for that morning which is useless. So it means taking a morning off work in the hope of securing an appointment often they are all taken by the time you get through.

I have a regular medication. Despite asking I have not managed to get this put on online repeat. This week I asked for a repeat in writing. First they declined it without informing me. I did manage to speak to a doctor by phone, for the doctor to prescribe the wrong medication. This included the dosage I mentioned on the phone, which is incorrect for that product.

It doesn’t stop there.

I was asked to attend a free NHS Healthcheck in January. . I went for the blood test to find the GP nurse told me they had asked for the wrong test, it should have been a cholesterol test. So she took blood without my fasting first and it has come by slightly high. I have had a letter to make an appointment with a GP. See above as to why that is such a drama.

All in all it is wasting my time and it is stressful. This level of inefficiency no doubt wastes NHS money too. I have been with this practice since childhood and it gets worse every year.

Needless to say I am finding another GP practice.

We are very sorry to hear that you have had problems trying to get an appointment.

We have a number of appointment slots that are released at 8.30am for both the morning and the afternoon and if you are a working patient you can ask for a later slot in the afternoon session so hopefully you will not need to take the day off work.

We are also sorry to hear of the difficulties you have had over your prescription however without knowing details of this we cannot comment about it being available as an online repeat.

With regard to the blood test for the NHS healthcheck it is not a fasting blood test, so we are unclear as to why you were advised it should have been.

With regard to making a further appointment with the GP we understand that you have online access and you can book appointments via that system which are usually about three weeks ahead.

We are sad to know that you will be leaving the practice.

Should you wish to contact me directly to discuss these issues my name is Peta Murphy and I am the Practice Manager.

With a little more information we may be able to resolve some of the problems you have outlined in your post.
