"Amazing job"

About: Margaret Kerr Unit

(as the patient),

I needed hospital treatment at the Borders general Hosptial. I went in and I am under the palliative care team so they offered me a bed on the MKU and I really didn’t know what to do as my concept of the unit was that is where you go for your final days/weeks!

Well how wrong was I! I stayed for 4 days to get my pain and strength and sickness in control. I could not fault anything with the unit. They made me and my family all very welcome and it definitely was not my last resting place. They would go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Nothing was EVER any problem they really do an amazing job.

So please please if you get offered a place (these are limited) really think about it and they have all the correct facilities and help you need to get back on your feet.

Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing your concerns about coming to the unit and how wrong that perception was. You are not alone in thinking differently about the unit once you had been in! Whilst we do provide some end of life care, the majority of our patients do go home and admission to the unit is to get any symptoms someone has under control.

Thank you for sharing what worked well for you and I will ensure the staff get to hear your feedback.

Wishing you all the best
