"Struck off without warning for ongoing condition"

About: St James's University Hospital / Ophthalmology

I have been under the care of St James for the last 10 years due to a life-long eye condition. This involved regular check ups and specialist hard contact lenses being prescribed to help maintain my vision in my one good eye. I am currently sitting here in tears having received a letter this morning stating my next 6 monthly check up is cancelled and I will need to be re-referred if I want another appointment. This makes no sense and directly contradicts the advice given in my last appontnent. Who will check my eyes? How will I know if I need a new lense? How will I get one - they can only be prescribed by a hospital? I have been left high and dry without any advice, consultation or reason as to why they have chosen to do this, other than “my case has been reviewed.” I am so distressed about this - I was initially referred to St James due to the fact I almost lost sight in one eye due to an infection. I was always told that my case would always have to be monitored. What has happened?
