I recently visited the dermatology department of New Cross Hospital as an out patient. The only positive aspects of the experience was that I was seen very quickly by the consultant with no more than a 5 minute wait and the member of the nursing staff in attendance was courteous and helpful.
However, I felt that there were failings in the general professionalism surrounding the appointment. I do not feel it appropriate that the consultant's lunch should be on their desk during the consultation. Furthermore I feel that basic hygiene was breached by the consultant who wiped their nose on their sleeve and the back of their latex examination glove whilst I was being examined.
There was a general lack of basic pleasantness and courtesy. My overwhelming impression was that I was simply a nuisance. Surely patients deserve better in 2018.
My advice to anyone reading this review is if you require a referral to a dermatological consultant look at on-line reviews to ascertain which hospital is rated positively by users. On the basis of my experience I would ask my GP to refer me somewhere else if ever I needed a further dermatology consultation.
"A poor service"
