After having my total knee replacement surgery postponed from 12/12/17, it finally happened on 23/01/18. I arrived on Copcoat ward at 0630 am as instructed where I was shown to a small waiting room where myself and others were to wait.
At approx 930 I was clerked in and 'ready to go ' only to be told that my surgery was scheduled fur 2pm as the consultant had a clinic in the morning (this was known when I was given the 630 am appointment slot).
Why did I need to attend so early? I was expected to wait in the very small waiting area from 630am until 2pm! Fortunately I know people who work at Kings so went for a walk to visit them.
After my surgery I was going to be on Murry Falconer ward and awoke to find myself on Brunel ward.
A bit disorientating! However I cannot praise the staff on this ward enough! Everyone was professional whilst friendly and engaging and very supportive and treated me with respect. . My first 'walk ' down the corridor post surgery was met with many high fives and words of praise. Never have I felt so proud to walk a few yards.
I finally went home on day 8 and as
I have developed an infection in the wound I am to be on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks, so I ended up with 6 big bags of meds, saline, syringes, needles, swabs to take home with me.
A bit more than a box of paracetamol!
I would like to offer a great big thank you to all the staff on Brunel ward for making my stay if not a pleasure, at least one where I felt respected, safe and cared for.
