About: Royal Derby Hospital

Anything else?

I am 8 months (30 weeks) pregnant and moving from London to Derby to join my husband. I have been trying to seek some advise from the Royal Derby Hospital regarding the NCT classes, midwife appointments , Labour ward etc. But, no one seems to be competent enough to guide me in the right direction-people in the Maternity ward simply say that I should get registered with the local GP first and then speak to them. On having a word with the local surgery they say that I can't be registered till the time I am in Derby and it would take around 2-3 weeks to get registered and to get all the records transferred.

What amazes me is the fact that no-one knows the process well. By the looks of it, by the time I am registered and ready to be looked at , the baby would have arrived!!!!!

I would really appreciate that someone in authority could please advise me at the earliest. I am moving to Derby on 19/03/11.

Thanks for getting in touch. The advice from the reception staff regarding registration is correct as the vast majority of care is delivered from GP surgeries. However, they should also provide you with the midwifery team number. The alternative is to contact our Pregnancy Assessment Unit via switchboard so that they can liaise with the appropriate team and provide advice. Please call 01332 340131 and ask for the Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

Ideally, your current midwife should liaise with us so that information can be shared to reduce risk and support your continued care.

Should you still be having problems getting the information you need please call switchboard and ask for Sharon Wallis, Senior matron (Maternity outpatients).

J. Roberts, communications.
