"Inadequate & Couldn't Careless"

About: Corbett Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Was so shocked to see the length of the queue of people waiting to check in at the front desk.

On observation it was evident the reception staff were not at all phased about the increasing queue.

One member of the front deak staff got up from her computer & sauntered round the front of the desk.

She then stopped & bent down across the desk to speak to her colleague for about 5 minutes.

Another older lady was loitering in the back office.

Her colleague casuaĺly asked if she was "back"?

She slowly got to her desk & slowly signed on to her work station without acknowledgement or answering her colleagues question.

It was then evident that she wasn't at ease using the system, as she had to ask the lady who had previously been sauntering round the front of the desk for help several times.

By the time we got to register our attendance it was 7 minutes past the appointment time.

On bringing this to the reception staff members attention, her fippant reply was " don't worry about it"!!!

What happened to being bothered, taking pride & being conscientious in your work.

If the inefficiency begins at the front desk then no wonder our NHS is in such a state!!!

If you don't have the gumption or even willingness to do a good job then step aside for someone who does.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent orthopaedic outpatient appointment. We are disappointed to read your comments about how long you waited on arrival and for the behaviour of our reception staff.

It is our intention for all patients to receive a high standard of care in a timely fashion so we apologise you were left waiting to sign in for your appointment.

We would advise that you to contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on Freephone 0800 073 0510 or e-mail dgft.pals@nhs.net who would be happy to raise the issues you have highlighted with the appropriate manager.
