"Thanks to everyone who cared for me!"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

I'd like to thank everyone involved in my care, when I was admitted to the Infirmary by ambulance on the night of December 26th 2010, (I had collapsed after losing about 2 pints of blood from the bowel), especially the paramedic, who was calming, reassuring, friendly and professional. (My family felt this too.) A&E dealt with me very quickly, (despite it being Boxing Day Night) and it felt good to have the paramedic remain with me until I was being cared for.

I'd also like to thank everyone who was involved in my care in the Surgical Assesssment Ward, during the day of 27th. Names are (unsurprisingly) blurred, but I remember everyone as friendly and helpful. I found it very useful to have continuity of care with particular nurses, and I would especially like to thank one nurse (sorry I don't know your surname) who cared for me for most of the day and helped me greatly by trying different anti-sicknesss drugs, until we made me comfortable and succeeded in allowing me to take important medicines!

I have a combination of unusual conditions, and staff in the SA ward were both very helpful in listening supportively to what I needed, (often simple but very vital things like pillows to achieve a pain free position) and pro-actively helping/ offering their own advice, (this is not always the case at all!)

Action to stop the bleeding was quick, effective and kept as uninvasive as possible.

Also allowing my family to stay and support me while I was feeling so ill, without either officiousness or harassment, made the whole experience as untraumatic as possible.

I felt I was with friends - Thank You! (LRI is a huge hospital and I have had some more negative experiences in other departments, but I would certainly trust and recommend the care I received on this occasion.)

What could be improved

Sorry I've run out of energy!
