"General care and attention"

About: County Hospital Louth / General surgery Pilgrim Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Suspect prostrate, followed by discovery of CT Scan of an Abdominal Aortic Anueurysm (AAA) 72mm.

No pain,just fear !

All members, surgeons, consultants and nursing staff more than sympathetic and deeply caring.

Prostrate treatment suspended to deal with Aneurysm in Boston.

After a couple of cancellations admitted for surgery. This was completed efficiently and affectively.Cared for post-operation in Intensive-care for 24 hrs being the admitted to a high observation ward.

Nursing staff all types friendly helpful and caring.

Up and about after further 24 hours.Discharged after further 48hours.

Wonderful people working extremely hard to look after people.

Prostrate treatment resumed after a couple of months with preparatory conditioning for radiotherapy.

Commenced radiotherapy November and completed a year ago.

Subsequently had quarterly reviews with consultant.

August started to have problems with blood loss due to radiotherapy burning.

Became aneamic.Sent for immediate gastroscopy and colonoptomy by consultant.

Results served only to confirm .Further treatment possible if required, but somehow circumstances appear to have healed themselves still after three weeks.

All through my treatment I have received nothing but friendly ,loving care and concern.

In my opinion the Trust does not justify the bad press it appears to receive.

The staff overall are lovely, genuine hardworking people and deserve many thanks and congratulations on their achievements.

I am also glad to observe that at last you have dispensed with the terrible offensive automated telephone survey.Having been involved in Market Research and customer service professionally it must have been contributing 10 minus points on its own to your results.

Cheap research gives cheap results !

Furthermore a suggestion I would like to offer to all of the personnel at all your establishments .

If you have a name badge, wear it in a visible position !

It gives a sense of being frightened or embarrassed to be associated with the establishment

They are more likely to be read for praise than for complaint.

If I have a complaint I would soon find out somebody’s name.

Perhaps some psychology in the work place would not be amiss?

You have a wonderful crew ,

Well done to you all and thank you.

Dear Codfish,

Thank you for posting your feedback about the telephone survey.

The NHS England’s Friends and Family Test (FFT) is mandated as part of the NHS contract for use throughout all areas of the NHS which includes hospitals, GP surgeries, dentists etc.

Along with all other general hospitals across the country, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust must ask inpatients, emergency patients and women who use maternity services, outpatients and day case patients how likely they are to recommend the ward, Accident and Emergency Department, outpatient clinic or department to their friends and family based on their experience in the hospital

Our Trust use this data as real-time feedback, alongside other information, to identify and tackle concerns at an early stage, improve the quality of care we provide, and ensure recognition of the very best care so that best practice can be spread across the Trust.

Patients do have the choice to opt out when the automated call or text is received. If someone does opt out it means they will received no further FFT surveys from us unless they change a mobile or home telephone number.

Regards

Sharon Kidd, Patient Experience Manager

Dear Codfish,

Thank you for taking the time to post such kind and positive feedback, I will pass your kind words onto my team who will appreciate them.

I will also ensure we take on board your learning point about the name badges, they should be displayed with pride.

Thanks again and I hope your recovery is continuing well,

Kind regards

Sister Emma Thompson
