I visited Macclesfield A&E last Wednesday afternoon with suspected appendicitis.
I was streamed to the relevant department (major outpatients, I think) where I was examined by a sympathetic, professional and reassuring doctor.
I was in A&E until about 7pm, when I was told I would be admitted to a ward for monitoring.
In that time, I had an ECG, blood tests and two x-rays, and always saw the same doctor for follow up.
I was also cared for by a lovely nurse.
The A&E was very busy, but all the staff in the section were patient, attentive and provided regualr updates, so that we were not left uninformed on progress.
They also came round with sandwiches at one point, because many of us had been there for a few hours.
Once admitted, I was in the Surgical Treatment Unit and every member of staff, from the porters to the senior surgeons and anaesthetists, were equally professional, friendly, informative and attentive.
I had my appendix removed on the Thursday and came home on the Friday.
I highly recommend the care at Macclesfield hospital and wish to thank all who cared for me over my 48 hours.
In particular, I wish to give special thanks to the following (first names only, but I hope you will know who you are):
The doctor in A&E, and her senior consultant (surgeon in STU), the nurse in A&E, a member of staff in ultrasound, All medical staff in STU (particularly the nurses who were so attentive and caring), the porters, the anaesthetists and the surgeons and operating room staff, who put me at ease.
"Excellent care from a lovely team"
