Pre-assessment appointment great. Unfortunately there for 3 hours but it could not be helped due to emergencies on the ward. All the staff were knowledgeable and helpful.
On the day of the procedure, I was understandably a bit nervous. I was there for division of adhesions and to get rid of any endometriosis.
Before the procedure I was seen by many staff members. The nurse and anesthetist came to see me firstly and, again, were very emphatic and helpful.
Thirdly I was seen by the one of the doctors helping on the procedure. Contrary to the others, this doctor was rather curt and did not seem to listen to any of what I had to say. I was repeatedly interrupted and pushed to say yes to a mirena device being put in. When I explained that I had tried it before and had reacted very badly they didn’t seem to believe me and I had to say no 3 times before it was settled.
Lastly the consultant came to see me. I had met them prior to the procedure and they recalled my situation. They were absolutely brilliant: very informative, full of empathy and genuinely seemed to care.
The operation went really well and the recovery team were excellent. The staff on Ward 49 are great, particularly one staff nurse. My only gripe was that initially at my pre-op the anaesthetist said they would recommend stronger painkillers for myself for the time in hospital as I regularly use strong ones for other health conditions. I was in quite a lot of pain during my stay and had to wait 4 hours at night for the registrar (I do realise they would be attending to emergencies and other patients so completely understand the time delay) to prescribe something stronger. This was only for 1 dose too. I feel that if the initial anaesthetists notes had been marked up I would have been more comfortable with regards to pain.
