"Broadfield Ward"

About: Haywood Hospital

I was a patient on Broadfield Ward for 7 weeks very recently. Here's a summary of why I have it a one-star review:

Staff clearly have their favourite patients and spend more time with them than anyone else

For a long time I was not permitted to walk anywhere alone due to my condition but I ended up taking myself to the bathroom as staff didn't have time and sighed loudly if I needed the toilet

One member of staff regularly checked the pad of an incontinent patient without closing the curtains round their bed

Broadfield Ward is a rehabilitation ward yet the physiotherapists spent around ten minutes a day with me. There is no physio at weekends so in a week I was having less than an hour's physiotherapy

In addition, there are no activities at weekends so unless you enjoy colouring, there is nothing to do

When I was particularly struggling and tearful, staff closed the curtains round my bed and walked away. I cried for hours and nobody came back but when one of the staff's favourite patients began to cry, they flocked round their bed and spent a considerable amount of time comforting them

Most staff never smile and seem utterly miserable. Staff rarely make the effort to chat to patients, even for a minute

Very frequently, staff would forget to administer parts of my medication and if I asked for pain relief, they would regularly forget

Some patients were allowed visitors at all times of day but my family, who live in a different country, were asked to leave at the end of visiting hours. We found this unfair and inconsistent

Some staff chew gum with their mouths wide open. This may seem petty but it is just an observation
