"Unhelpful receptionist"

About: Richmond Medical Centre

I had an operation on my foot on 23rd January and was advised by the hospital to administer heparin injections. The hospital doctor gave me some alcohol swabs to clean the injection site but didn’t give me enough. I rang the surgery to see if they could supply more and was told by the receptionist that it would be possible if the original packet was taken in. My husband went in but was told by this particular receptionist that they did not have the ones I’d been given so was unable to give him any. He asked if the nurses used alcohol swabs and she said they did but she could not give him any. Surely it was common sense to check with a nurse or doctor to see if I could use the ones they had as they are only used to clean the skin before an injection.

We are sorry to hear that you did not get the help you needed with your treatment.

The receptionist who dealt with your query thought your husband was happy to source alcohol swabs from the pharmacy and is sorry to hear that she misjudged this.

We have small supplies of alcohol swabs in surgery.

We have made our reception staff aware that, in circumstances like yours, we are happy to provide them to patients who need them.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused.
