"Overall care rushed with some staff rude and..."

About: Oaklands Hospital

I had a gall bladder removed on 16th January 2018

My surgeon was good overall but felt explanation of things very rushed. Prior to operation I received no confirmation of the procedure through the post and I had to call the hospital 3 times to get information. As I had not received any information I rang the week before the operation asking when I needed to come in for a pre-op. I was told I didn't need one at first but as the surgeon had told me why the reason for this was important I insisted. I was then asked to come in a few days later.

I was the first patient to go down to theatre on the day. The anesthetist had two attempts to put in the candula which really hurt. I went down to theatre about 9.15 and when I came round a nurse was with me who was lovely. Following on from that my obs were taken regularly and pain relief monitored well. However after having small cup of water a nurse walked past my door and told a nurse who was looking after me to get me up and get me dressed! I was horrified! This nurse hadn't been in to see me or read my notes before making this decision. The nurse who was caring for me came in and said she'd been told to get me up and dressed and I could go home in about 15 minutes! I'd just had an operation and hadn't been to the loo or anything. I felt very lightheaded and weak as I was helped off the bed and dressed! The nurse told me to sit on a chair. I couldn't do much else as I felt so poorly!

A few minutes later another nurse came in Who had been in to see me a few times and she too seemed shocked as to why I was sat there. She and the nurse helped me back in to bed where I was told there was no rush. Someone then brought me a drink and toast. At 3 pm they sent me home. Still rushed in my opinion. They told my partner they needed the bed. This is just a business being ran to earn the surgeons and directors big bucks putting the welfare of patients second place. I was totally disgusted with the whole service from beginning to end. And the young receptionist on the first floor needs a lesson in customer service and politeness. So rude! Wouldn't go back here for any operation for a gold clock! Terrible service and care overall
