"Mix up between STARS and Dumfries Hospital"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Community Services / STARS (Short Term Assessment Reablement Service) Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / General Surgery

(as the patient),

The specialist wanted myself to have care and rest, the STARS team O/T was determined that I would enable myself alone. Result I now have 100 ml fluid in my pelvic cavity, a hernia in my right groin area with the right groin muscles to the leg, bruised and ragged. Until the mess is all cleared up I cannot have a new hip, because it will go septic, the hip replacement the specialist tells myself will be easy. But if only STARS management would liaise with Social Services in the hospital. My last hospital treatment was excellent, the STARS team coal face staff all know their job well. But there is a mix up between STARS management and the hospital Social Services, my discharge forms list STARS as a care service, which it is not. Now starting again after one year two months is too much.

Update posted by izarfp69 (the patient)

I Wish there to be a direct link between the Stars management team and the hospital social services, thus ensuring patients get the treatment their specialist wants, not what some other person thinks the patient needs. The hospital at all levels appears to be operating each in its own little box. Management needs to go round the hospital and see what is happening, and to operate by walk about, talk to staff. I feel management seems to think the computer will solve all problems.

Dear izarfp69

For your reassurance Stars Managers, Social Work Managers and other members of the wider patient flow team meet daily in the hospital to discuss the doctors plans and patient, including family, wishes. However your point suggests rightly that we could perhaps learn further on how to improve on this based on your recent unsatisfactory experience.

I take your point about computers not solving problems. As such I wonder if you would please call me to discuss further on 01387 246246 (33832). Or if you prefer you can call Stars Case Managers on 01387 260660 please ask to speak with Senior Charge Nurse Geddes or Airey?

We look forward to speaking with you directly.

Best wishes
