"Rude and abrupt"

About: Wansbeck Hospital / Maternity care

From start to finish throughout my pregnancy, my first ever pregnancy I'll add, I've had nothing but trouble.

Receptionists have been consistently rude, upon my most recent visit a receptionist spent 15-20mins on the phone sorting out her rota, enquiring about another receptionist who wasn't on shifts absence to then announce to the whole waiting room how shocking it was that this receptionist has a week off to deal with a bereavement. Not very caring or understanding at all.

My nurse then went to said receptionist to book me in for an appointment the following Wednesday as it was urgent I be seen due to problems that had arose during my scan for the receptionist to raise her voice at the nurse and tell her i haven't got time to do that! (Yet had time to sort a rota out)

Another example of shocking care; half way through my pregnancy I started to experience severe pain in my groin and vaginal area therefore contacted my midwife (no answer) contacted the antenatal DPT (no answer) the called 111 to get advice who directed me to wansbeck walk in centre... After waiting for over an hour crying in pain I was told by the doctor it was "pregnancy related pains" and to speak to a go.

Spoke to my gp in the morning, diagnosed with a kidney infection given anti biotics and told to call if it doesn't let up after 7 days. 7 days of agony go by, no difference... At work when I notice bleeding down below, my work rings an ambulance to get me taken in. Paramedic asks to see my medication and is shocked that I have been given the wrong antibiotics.

Taken in to cramlington, get a diagnosis and be better the following day all because someone, ONE PERSON took my pain seriously.

I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy and am shocked that I have no idea or no confidence as to what is going to happen in the coming weeks, because my babies large I may have an induction, a csection or vaginal birth, yet no one will answer my questions and whenever I ask I'm told I'll find out at my next appointment.

I understand the NHS is struggling but the moment our Dr's, nurses, midwives and staff lose the compassion and care the NHS is supposedly famous for is the day it truly fails.

Please address, id hate to think any first time mum or 6th time mum would have to go through the same.

Dear Madam,

Please accept my sincere apologies, it’s very concerning that your experience with us has fallen very short of the compassionate care that you have every right to expect.

It is very important for us to learn as much as we can from your review to make sure we do all we can to prevent these circumstances from recurring. With this in mind please could you email us with your full name, date of birth and home address to patient.experience@nhct.nhs.uk this will enable our senior midwifery team to pinpoint the dates and times of your visits to our hospitals.

I completely appreciate your worries regarding visiting our hospital to give birth and any further appointments you may need, but please be assured that our staff will do all they can to give you the best possible care regardless of the type of birth you have. I know our senior midwifery team would echo my comments and would very much like the opportunity to talk you through some of your concerns to put your mind at rest and answer some of your questions.

Please let me know your contact details via the email above and I'll ask a senior member of the midwifery team to get in touch.

Best wishes,

Annie
