"Surgical care at Borders General Hospital"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7)

(as a service user),

After the cancellation of my planned surgery in December, I was re-admitted in January 2018.  I was admitted directly into ITU as all elective surgical procedures had been cancelled due to shortage of beds.  Following surgery I returned to ITU from where I was returned to theatre 2 days later for emergency surgery.  I am pleased to report that this was successful and I am now home recovering well.

I would like to express my gratitude to Mr Pal for his surgical care and his continuing attention while I remained in hospital.  Please also pass on my thanks to all staff in ITU and Ward 7 who did an amazing job in providing care and support at a very difficult time for the hospital, due to the pressures of overcrowding and the weather conditions which hindered a number of staff reporting for duty.

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. It is good to hear you are doing so well. Thank you for acknowledging the difficulties at this time of year - we really are doing our best to keep treating as many people as quickly as we can. It is great to hear you had such a positive experience. I will personally pass on your thanks to the team in ITU. Very best wishes for your continued recovery.
