"My father’s care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / General Surgery

(as a relative),

My 92 year old father was admitted as an emergency to ARI, he spent most of his time in ward 207. I’d like to praise ward 207 for the care he received. Staff were patient and kind. I want to particularly mention the ward sister,   Karen always made sure our questions were answered and spent considerable time with me and my brother seperately to make sure we weren’t worrying. She put our minds at ease, was very easy to talk to, and explained things in a way that I understood.   I’m sure being a ward sister is a demanding job but I was never made to feel that I was a bother. My dad is to return for further tests and I hope he will be in 207 under the care of Karen and her staff as I know he’ll be well looked after there. I hope Ward 207 sees this. Thanks again and keep up the good work. You’ve made what could have been a very anxious time for us much easier.

Dear xraycg53

Thank you so much for taking time to post your lovely feedback on Care Opinion. Your story demonstrates to us that anxiety is relieved when staff are kind and patient and explain what is happening. This helps us all understand how important these aspects of nursing are to our families and carers as well as to our patients. I find stories such as this help our student nurses to understand what matters to patients and families and I encourage them to use Care Opinion as a learning tool.

Karen has shared your feedback with her staff and has asked me to pass on her thanks too. From her perspective sharing this type of feedback boosts the team and makes them realise that their hard work does not go unnoticed.

I hope your father is recovering from his hospital stay and wish you both well.

Many thanks again.
