"Generally a good practice but admin lets them down"

About: Westcotes Medical Centre

The service provided is good and compared to what we hear about other surgeries this is a good practice,

Staff are generally very caring and provide a reasonable service.

The medical staff listen and involve you in the decisions around treatment.

For important issues they will often ring you back the same day.

What lets them down is admin, particularly around prescriptions.

If you have a complex set of prescriptions they always seem to get repeat prescriptions wrong.

If prescriptions need to go to different suppliers you can bet they get this wrong.

Sometimes prescriptions that should go electronically get printed out so you assume the chemist has received them but you find they are still att he practice.

They do need to sort this admin out as it really does let the practice down and causes a number of patients issues.

The practice has a tendency to blame the pharmacy when often its themselves.

What would be helpful if for those patients with complex prescription needs, met with one of the team to ensure that it was OK this would help enormously.

This way they could ensure that all repeat prescriptions fell at the same time rather than different points in the month, they could ensure that prescriptions were electronically going to the right pharmacy.

A GP review about medication wouldn't hurt but I appreciate that GPs are very busy.

Thank you for taking the time to comment and your positive comments. I would like to discuss the prescription issue you have had so please call me and I will be more than happy to discuss further so that this does not happen again. It can be a little difficult when juggling 2 suppliers and sometimes if the EPS system is down we do have to print the prescription but I would be interested to hear your thoughts so that we can improve. The Gp's are more than happy to see you for a medication review , it is something all patients are required to have so please call and make an appointment or speak to me directly.

Kind regards

Sarah Howell
