"Bone marrow biopsy"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I attended ward 16 day unit for a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. From the moment I arrived nurse Jane put me at ease. She explained everything that was going to happen in stages and went over after care at home. The procedure did feel slightly uncomfortable and only little pain near the end. However Jane counted in stages, speaking to me throughout, making sure I was comfortable and this helped greatly. The procedure did not feel rushed and I was always asked how I was feeling. Jane called me at home later that day to check all was ok. Very positive experience from something I was feeling anxious about.

Dear EMB

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent visit to the Ward 16 for a Bone Marrow procedure. I know that this is a very uncomfortable procedure but pleased to hear that our nurse specialist made the experience easier for you.

We know it is not easy having these type of investigations – but it is less frightening when the whole procedure is explained thoroughly including the aftercare and the follow up telephone call.

I will make sure that your grateful thanks is passed on to the member of staff.

Thank you again for posting your message.

Warmest regards

Margaret
