What I liked
The staff.
What could be improved
I was taken to Wansbeck after sustaining a head injury. It was a busy night so I had to wait in A&E for some considerable time, which is understandable. When taken to see the doctor (who was great) it was in a room with blood sprayed across the ceiling and across one wall, which didn't give the best impression. When I pointed it out, the doctor apologised but rather than move to any other room, I stayed there while - as word spread - other staff came in to ogle at the phenomena, while I was in the room, which didn't make me feel terribly comfortable. When admitted I was advised that because I whacked my head I would require hourly obs. These were not carried out (obs were only done when I saw the doctor, when I was admitted to the ward, and then when the nursing staff changed). When the new nurse arrived she commented that there was no way for him to know whether I'd improved as the obs hadn't been done, something echoed by the consultant. The staff were extremely busy and therefore you can, to a certain degree understand, but I have no confidence that, had things been more severe, problems would have been noticed. This is probably a one-off unfortunately experience on a hectic night but it still didn't reflect too well.
"Staff were great but cleanliness and..."
