"Shocking"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital / Maternity care

39 weeks and they decided to induce me with reduced movements. Booked me for induction for 3 days later as they had no beds and advised me i would need to come in for monitoring ever day un my induction. Called at 8am on the day to check they had a bed and firstly they didnt answer the phone for about 15mins. When they did, they said there was no beds and i was 7th in the que. Despite having 'booked' 3days ago. I understood i may have a later time due to priority patients but it wasnt communicated to me i may have not been going in AT ALL for the next few days for induction. They gave me a time to come in for monitoring that day. When i did...i waited 1 hour to even be seen. Had to see a dr after also...which i waited a further 2 hours to see. To only have a 5minute conversation telling me basically that ive gone down in the que to 9th and may not be induced for a few days (after my due date). The dr was lovely and understood my frudtrations and concern as there seemed to be urgency to book me in for induction a week prior and still...no induction in sight. Advised me to continue to come in for monitoring which i refused as 30mins on CTG machine offered me little or no reasurance due to still no fetal movements evem whilst on monitor...even though i was told all was ok. Majority of.midwives were rude and abrupt. Waiting for 6 hours for a simple CTG and dr consult one of the days. They also told me my swab was negative for any infection....2 weeks later i recieved a letter notifying me of group B strep infection. Absolutely ridiculous. Dr told me to complain in light of all this.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for taking the time to feedback about your experience and we can only apologise for the frustrating time that you have had in our care. This is certainly not how we want our patient’s to feel and we hope that since then your experience has improved. We are continuously working with our women to improve the service we provide, in particular the induction of labour service as it is a very frustrating and worrying time.

Unfortunately, delays do happen with this sort of admission. However, we should always communicate well with you and support you through this time as well as do our best to support your wishes for your birth. Your feedback is really helpful in enabling us to address the issues you have raised and once again, we are sorry that our care fell short of what it should be. If you would like to get in touch to discuss this matter in further depth, please do not hesitate to contact our PALS Team on 0121 335 8226 or you can connect with us via email connect@bwnft.nhs.uk.
