I visited the Radiology department on 19th January, as my son who has learning difficulties had a MRI appointment.
My son was extremely scared and nervous beforehand as he hadn't had one before but to prepare him we watched videos of what will happen. We checked in at reception and were sent down the corridor to the waiting area.
After about roughly three minutes the door opened and we were greeted by a member of staff with a beaming smile, who called my sons' name. She was so kind to my son, spoke to him, rather than at him like so many adults do. She took her time with my son, never once rushing him through anything, she even made little jokes with him to take his mind off the scan.
Once we entered the scan room, all the members of staff present were equally kind and gentle, they all made sure my son was comfortable and felt safe before leaving the room.
After the scan was all finished, I took my son down to Muffin Break for some lunch and we bumped into the young lady who we first saw, and even though she was on her lunch break she asked my son how it went and how he felt.
As a Psychiatrist myself, too often we are quick to complain about the service we receive and not praise the people that have helped us.
I would like to say thank you to the MRI team and to Lewisham Hospital for the quick, efficient and kind service we received. We need more people like you guys in the NHS.
"Lovely service"
