"Still unpacking"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 12)

(as the patient),

I had to attend respiratory for tests. Well first off the letter sent me to the wrong location I was sent to rehab as respiratory had moved, staff took me to the department and it was disgusting.  It stank, it was filthy, nothing was unpacked.  I know they had moved but a department should not have been opened until everything was unpacked and all the work was completed.

I was taken to a room to have the test carried out.  The carpet was foul and absolutely disgusting, the walls were marked. It was a shock.  You bring people with chronic lung problems into a place like this? The department should be shut down and not opened until all the work is completed.

I saw a reply to a comment made by someone else about this same situation yes it may be a part of a wider development plan but patients should not have to endure this.

Dear HJc65

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you by the relocation/refurbishment of the Respiratory laboratory. The transfer of the department is part of a wider plan to improve patient service within Hairmyres Hospital.

To allow the Respiratory Laboratory to move and support the commissioning of the new area and equipment, it was necessary to cancel outpatient’s appointments.Regrettably we were not successful in contacting everyone who had appointments and unfortunately a few patients did arrive in the department. As you rightly observe the area was not ready to function as a lab as the area was still being commissioned. I am pleased to update you that he lab will be re-opening on Thursday 25th of February. If you wish to discuss the rescheduling of your appointment please call me on 01355 584663.

Once again apologies for the distress and inconvenience caused.

Regards

Margaret
