I attended the RNOH to have a lesion removed from my left ankle. The treatment I received was 5* and is a brilliant example of how good the NHS can be.
My day started by checking in at outpatients and meeting a member of staff who explained what was going to happen, who I would be seeing and also gave me directions to my ward. I don't think there would have been a better person to do the job, he came across lovely and very professional, making me feel at ease.
After seeing the surgical team and the anesthetist, I then went to the Coleman Unit where I would be staying for one night after my surgery. The whole team were amazing. The nurses, HCAs, the physio and the lovely 'dinner' lady that made the best tea and made me smile, were all incredible. I never had to ask for them to do anything, as they were always one step ahead of me.
Going in to surgery. I was terrified but I seemed to have been assigned the best anaesthetist who I trusted 100% and she made it all seem so easy. It was particularly nice seeing her on the unit after to being able to thank her for what she had done. The surgery went well and of course praise goes to the surgical team who performed it and then came and discussed it all with me.
Finally, as I left to go home on my crutches, I had porters in the corridors offering to help me to where I needed to go. As I have said 5* care, I could not fault it. Thank you!
