"The drs & nurses are wonderf"

About: St. James Surgery

I cannot fault the drs & nurses atall they’re brilliant.

The care you get is second to none. In general I find the surgery the best in clacton & I’m very grateful for them letting my family in. There usually polite, helpful & more than accommodating.

However getting long term repeat prescriptions for my child’s formula is awkward. My daughter is on prescription milk, has chronic lung disease & is small for her age, so I don’t have to keep bringing her out in the cold (taking the prescription in, picking it up 3 days later, going to the pharmacy & then going again when the milks been delivered) I’ve been picking up one prescription & at the same time putting in the next prescription for her milk. One lot of milk last approx 2 weeks. She’s going to be on this milk until she’s a year old (another 6 months) so I’m not over ordering & it is her main food. Apparently I’m not allowed to do this & there’s not an easier way to get her prescription. The lady kept repeating ‘you have to put it in 3-4 days before it’s due’ offering no other helpful advice until I kept asking & eventually she told me I could get the prescription sent to the pharmacy, still isn’t the most practical but saves one trip out. She also didn’t seem very understanding it wasn’t medicine that was on the prescription but formula that my child needs & that some weeks babies go through milk quicker than others.

Also saying ‘I’m sure there’s lots of other people in your

Position, can’t you get someone else to do it?’ Really isn’t very helpful.

We’re a hard working family but this we need to keep our daughter alive.

My suggestion would be to allow parents to order children’s prescriptons online, it would save queues at the surgery taking the pressure off the reception team who always seem to be run off their feet & help out a lot of parents.

Thank you for your comments.

We do not routinely register children under 16 for online access but We would be grateful if you would contact the surgery and let us have your name so that we can look into this further for you.
