I went Charing Cross Hospital after tearing open my knee in a fall. The staff reception staff were attentive, kind, and watchful, and I was seen by a triage nurse within the hour even though the waiting room was crammed full of people. I was treated by a kind, courteous, skillful and attentive nurse who sewed me up and made sure I didn't experience any discomfort. She stayed 1.5 hours after her shift to look after me and to help out her colleagues in the Emergency Room, as they are understaffed. I was bowled over and humbled by the commitment and fortitude of the staff here, and was dismayed to hear that often people harangue them about waiting times; this is a problem of the government, not of NHS frontline staff who are doing their level best with what they have. While I did have to wait a while, I received excellent treatment which went above and beyond the call of duty, and I am so grateful to the nurse who treated me and to the NHS for fighting through. If you are reading this, I urge you to write your MPs and advocate for the NHS - more funding, more training places for nurses, better treatment and incentives for staff to stay. The UK is extremely lucky to have such talented and commuted people as these, and they give one hope for the future. Treat them well, and they'll treat you well.
"Brilliant, capable and committed staff"
