About: Royal Free Hospital

What I liked

there was not a good deal to like

What could be improved

The appointments systems is very poor with departments not talking to each other. This meant that I had to chase and chase for several months. One secretary was incredibly helpful as was the PALs manager.

Staff - reception at gynae for example - were rude and did not look at me while I was talking or they were talking. they were clearly more interested in their computer and there was a distinct 'the computer says no' attitidue. I was apalled.

in terms of the consultant, she failed to communicate with me/make alternative appointment for me and did not apologise for this omission. She then wanted to perform a ompleteley inappropriate operation - hysterectomy - when there was no need or desire for this at all. This is poor clinical practice and would not have been in the best interest of me as the patient, not to mention a complete waste of precious NHS resources.

My scanning experience was also poor and did not meet the standards of dignity that are expected. This entailed leaving me waiting in a completely empty waiting room at the end of the working day, with a full bladder (required for the pelvic scan) for more than an hour, with no explanation or apology. The radiographer eventually admitted to me that a colleague had gone home early.

Anything else?

I will try to avoid the Royal free in future, particularly for gynae, although I know others have had a good experience in certain specialisms.
