"First class care and post-operation..."

What I liked

The Treatment Centre is very bright and modern and I was treated with respect at all times by the nursing staff and doctors. I had a room to myself and I cannot fault that as everything looked very clean and there were several hand wash dispensers in the room. Both doctors and nurses made a point of washing their hands so it appears that infection control is being taken very seriously. I had a TV with Freeview and an en-suite WC; both of these helped take my mind off the operation. The room was also air-conditioned, this helped me sleep as the usual temperature in hospitals is too hot for me. The window in the room also offered a great view across the city centre.

The nurses regularly checked my blood pressure etc and this was done using machines that looked very new. The bed was also excellent as it had various electrically-powered adjustment switches.

The operation went very smoothly and the surgeon spoke to me both before and after the op. The anesthetic staff were also very good and helped put my mind at ease. After the op when I was on the ward, the nurses checked regularly that I was OK and gave me painkillers that helped me. I was never in too much pain as this was controlled very well.

The op I had normally required someone to stay with me for 24 hours but as I didn't really have anyone that could do that then I was told I could stay in hospital overnight. This was really good and I am pleased that the centre tries to meet the patient's needs rather than forcing everyone through a strict procedure.

What could be improved

My only real gripe is regarding the regular medication I take as prescribed by a consultant, as I had to wait longer than I would have liked to take this. This was taken and locked away when I entered the ward. That said, I think that is always done, so probably not the Treatment Centre's fault but more a general NHS issue. If I have been prescribed these then I should be allowed to take them, as that's what I do every day at home!
