My father suffered from a stroke. Firstly I would like to say how disappointed I was with the ambulance service after being on hold for several minutes I was then told help was on its way and to call back if he got worse, as the call handler had to hang up to take another call, I appreciate this is a busy time of year but it was hardly reassuring.
The ambulance turned up 20/25 minutes later and was a single person who was unable to transfer my father to hospital as it was against protocol however this paramedic was extremely reassuring and was constantly monitoring my father... they radioed through several times asking for eta of 2 man ambulance... this took at least an hour to arrive again not ideal when someone was suffering from a stroke.
Approx 2 hours after 999 call my father was finally admitted to A&E at Wishaw general the care that he received from this point onwards was second to none ... every member of staff involved in his care from Dr at A&E to the junior doctor, the nurses, X-ray staff and portering staff could not have done anymore to help him.
He was moved from A&E to ECU again the nursing staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. When a bed was available he was moved to ward 11, the staff in this ward are absolutely fantastic and a credit to the NHS, The OT, Physiotherapist and Social services played their part in helping him and their hard work and care for their patients was something else to see.
I can’t thank the staff at Wishaw general enough for all they did and thankfully my father although still has a long road ahead is now comfortable at home and making good progress.
