Been a regular visitor to a&e over last 4 weeks with a relative. Each time the experience has got worse.
There is no/very little communication between staff, staff are rude, staff don’t listen to patients/relatives, seem more content “bitching” about other memebers of staff or the “other departments”.
Leaving seriously ill patients with worsening medical conditions in pain for over 12 hours and offering over the counter pain relief is nothing short of incompetent and patronising.
Not listening to concerns and worries of a seriously ill patient is again nothing short of incompetent.
On one visit (28th December) was in A&E for 22 hours. One minute told a bed on a medical ward would be available then during a shift change a senior doctor decided to undo al the plans that had been made and took the decision to discharge. When challenged he advises patients and their relatives that he is “paid to make difficult decisions” he incorrectly diagnosed my relative and subsequently delayed specialist treatment. The same individual interrupts conversations between relatives and other doctors.
This department is quickly becoming a laughing stock. You don’t need to scratch the face of google too much to hear about many of these experiences. They seem more than viable of dealing with a cut finger and fractured limb but care and compassion with incurable cancer is unforgivable.
Good luck with your treatment in this department. Be on the ball and offer the nurses help with menial tasks (you know like finding a doctor - I had to do this twice today), it’s also worth arranging CT scans yourself by popping to the reception desk in Radiology as waiting for the Doctors to tick the box on a piece of paper or hit send on the computer form delays things somewhat (in our experience by several hours), thus much quicker having a wander to the different departments and arranging tests yourself.
Hop things work out for you in this department, alternatively it will cost around £15-£18 to visit Leeds who have a fantastic A&E function.
