This is a belated review regarding the excellent care of our elderly mother with dementia which we experienced in October/November 2017.
Mum was admitted to A&E with suspected pneumonia and suffering hypothermia. Having advanced dementia, Mum was unable to communicate her feelings, symptoms or needs. For the three weeks that Mum was in the hospital she received professional, appropriate and compassionate care from her admission through A&E all the way through to her recovery in Ward 31, where she had exemplary care on a ward specialising in dementia. I cannot speak highly enough of the way that Mum was treated and helped to recover and of the honest and clear explanations that we as her carers received from the medical staff. We were able to fully understand the parameters of the medical treatment and what choices were available dependanding on various outcomes. The only negative experience we had was around complications in discharging Mum to home when she was better. This was to do with coordination of ambulance and home care staff and mobility difficulties specific to Mums situation. Even then, we were able to resolve the problem by working with the staff concerned and we were delighted to get Mum home for the last few weeks of her life.
A huge thank you for your kindness and professionalism.
