"Poor care in Tarn ward"

About: Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as a relative),

My son was admitted to Tarn Ward late last year. He has had mental health issues for years.

During his stay he was treated terribly by the so called care staff. One in particular he was laughed at, spoke to him like he was worthless and treated terribly. On two occasions I his mother had phoned and was spoken to like I was some sort of idiot I. myself had worked in caring for 25yrs. I went to visit him and asked to speak to this particular person and was told they didn’t want to speak to me as they sat laughing at the other end of the corridor.

They had injected my son several times and knocked him out for a few hours. After the 6 weeks they transferred him to Sidcup Oxleys, on arrival he was in agony he had a swollen butt cheek and leg he could hardly walk. No one done anything about it and said it would go down in a few days. It didn’t.

They discharged after two weeks, still in pain and swollen down one side of his leg. He was admitted to The Medway hospital unable to walk in agony and very unwell. He is waiting for a scan to see what has happened and has to stay in hospital.

I feel that the care on this ward The Tarn is outrageous and disgusting the way these so called trained staff treat patients who are vulnerable and mentally ill. The staff we had experience of, seem to sit on there computers playing games and joking and going to sleep on night duty.  There was one in particular David a care assistant. who was different and provided good care.  My son is now is going to take these further.
