"Repeat prescriptions"

About: Bryant Street Medical Practice

On three occasions now I have I have had cause to query the whereabouts of my or my wife's' repeat prescription. It clearly states in a notice on the surgery reception window that repeat prescriptions should be submitted 72 hours before they will be available (used to be 48 hours). The latest prescription for my wife was paced into the surgery on Monday and I went to collect it from the pharmacy on Saturday only to be told that there was no prescription for my wife there. We always ensure that the repeat is requested more than 72 hours in advance (I have had this situation on two previous occasions and comments made by other customers in the pharmacy infer that this is a regular occurrence at this surgery) My wife phoned the surgery this morning, explained the situation and was told that there is no record of a prescription being placed in the surgery. The receptionist informed my wife that we could collect the prescription after 3 O'clock this afternoon. The last Doctor I saw (one I've never seen before and who never introduced himself) told me that I could not have a repeat medication because he had seen a letter from the specialist that prescribed the medication (and sent a letter to the surgery asking them to prescribe this for me for future use) stating that I was not allowed to have it. He also told me that I was wasting my time because I asked for an alternative medication. I have now lost patience with the situation and will be making a formal complaint about the surgery.

Good morning and firstly apologies for the delay in replying to your comments.

Firstly I would like to say thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

We were aware that we had a problem with our issuing of repeat prescriptions, which is one of the reasons why we increased the turn around from 48-72 hours, to be honest we simply couldn't cope with the demand of requests that we were receiving for repeat prescriptions.

Patients now have a choice to request their prescriptions in person, via an electronic request at a pharmacy of their choice or alternatively you are now able to request prescriptions and book appointments on line.

We sincerely hope that this has helped both our patients and staff to enable a much smoother service.

If you do experience any further problems with the prescription service, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss.

Many thanks

Lisa Wellfair

Practice Manager
