On my arrival to stay with my 86 year old mother she unfortunately fell literally whilst I was unpacking the car. Having checked her over and helped her up off the floor I noticed her wrist not only looked deformed but was causing her pain.
I decided a visit to an ED at 22: 30 on a Saturday night was probably not a good idea. So having dosed her up with Paracetamol and a sort of good nights sleep. We went to Northampton General ED Christmas Eve morning.
I was so impressed with the service she was given, I work in the NHS in an acute and very busy hospital and was dreading taking her to any ED.
NGH had a great system in place we seemed to be on the move with what felt like little time sitting around. Mum was triaged, observations done, bloods taken ecg completed before her X-ray.
Following her X-ray we waited a short time to see Jon ACP who confirmed her fracture and took a further history of her current problems. Made a good treatment and discharge plan as well as charming my mother.
We waited to see IDT after having had a back slab put in place and we're then discharged.
Excellent service well done in a time when the ED departments are getting such a bad press you are doing a fantastic job.
