"Poor maternity care at LRI"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Maternity

I have had 2 children unfortunately through c section at LRI. My first experience post birth was so poor that for my second child I chose the General. Unfortunately due to surgical lists I again had to go to the LRI for my c section (Unavoidable). I arrived in the morning as requested. When I arrived I was given a bed and met my midwife. Started well with a good introduction and a set of observations. at 9:30am my midwife came to me with a glass of water and said I was likely to be later in the morning/early afternoon. That was the last time I saw. my midwife! I did not go down to theatre until nearly 4pm. Was given no information and was lethargic having no food and drink since the night before. At one point the theatre team came to collect me but because I had no cannula, gown or even signed consent they took another lady! I had 3 different anaesthetists come and see me telling me I was next. When I was eventually collected by a theatre nurse he asked me 'Do you actually have an allocated midwife as we can't find your notes'. Just no sign of good communication. I know the department is busy but I should have had someone at least come and update me. Once I was down in theatre I overheard my midwife complaining as she must have been spoken to. I cannot fault the theatre team for looking after me and my baby it's just a shame the care on the ward before and after is so poor.
