"Opiate abuse"

About: Guernsey House / Primary care addiction service Sheffield (PCASS)

(as a service user),

I have been coming to Guernsey House for about 3-4years, it's good. It's been helpful but I live at the other side of Sheffield and it can be hard sometimes getting here.

I also feel that some of the doctors don't, or are sometimes not in the mood to, take onboard your comments or other help you may need.

Response from Office Manager, Primary Care Addiction Service, Sheffield, Guernsey House

Thanks for taking the time to post about your experience at Guernsey House, it's encouraging to hear that your experience over a three-four years has been mainly positive.

We know that the clinic location can't be convenient for everyone (although we do have good public transport links) so we have set up two 'satellite clinics' where you can access Guernsey House staff and services in a different location. We currently offer these at Hanover Medical Centre and at the Wicker Pharmacy and we are working on setting up some more - please let us know where your think it would be useful to have one and we will take your feedback on board when we are planning future satellites. If you would like to have your appointments at the Wicker or at Hanover, please let one of our staff know next time you're in the clinic.

We know from experience that service users are more likely to attend and get more out of their treatment with us if appointments are in locations and at times that are convenient to them, we also offer evening and Saturday morning appointments - travel times can bet better at these times.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't always experienced good listening from our doctors and I encourage you to talk to your key worker about this so that they can follow it up, your key worker can also act as an advocate between you and the doctor to help you to get your point of view across. We also encourage you to stick to one doctor, as once you have an established relationship with someone it can be easier for both of you to work together towards your recovery.

Wishing you all the best with your treatment,

Guernsey House
