"What to expect"

My first surgery was yesterday & I had no idea what to expect, so for those of you with a need to know what to expect please read on.

Before surgery I was administered 3 lots of eye drops at 10 minute intervals 3 times.

Then I was walked to another room with the theatre just next door

I was given the final 3 lots of eye drops before going in.

There were several people gowned & masked in the theatre and I was made comfortable on the bed

At this stage I was still aprehensive then the surgeon welcomed me & put me at ease as he described each thing he did.

First sterilising the area then covering the area with whatever they use to leave only the eye visable for surgery.

I recall 3 very bright lights which I had no toubke focusing on.

The surgeon talked the whole time assuring me kindly as he carried on wirh the preparations to ensure my eye stayed open. Not once did I feel any pain or discomfort during the 15 minutes or so procedure. I stayed focused on the 3 lights which often blurred, moved, distorted and from 3 down to 2 lights whilst my lens was removed & then replaced. I felt no sensation of this but knew that was what was being done and thatvwas it over. I was fitted with a plastic protective eye sheild which was comfortabke enough to sleep wirh and the numbness of my scalp was the only stragest feeling I experienced on the day.

I have 3 lots of droos to administer over the next 2/4 weeks all cleary marked

My eye feels tender and I cannot yet see clearly but it's only day one post op and next week I will donit all again with my left eye.
