"Excellent service"

About: Spire Murrayfield Hospital

My reason for going to Murrayfield Spire was to get my gallbladder removed as it had been causing me pain and discomfort for about a year and a half. It was the first surgical treatment I'd ever had and I was quite nervous about it. However, the nurses on the first floor and the consultant I had were fantastic and put me at ease very quickly. (At least mentally, seeing as my heart rate was fairly consistently 100 BPM until going into theatre!). After being admitted I only waited 2.5 hours to have surgery, so it was a quick turn around.

Each patient gets their own room and has a button to push to request assistance. This is a useful system because you don't disturb anyone with your pain and/or snoring and vice versa.

I found the nurses to be prompt and efficient as well as very friendly.

The room was clean and had a nice view. There was a small lockable drawer amongst a set of drawers in which to keep your belongings and a small cupboard too.

You could control the temperature by turning the heating up or down and the window was able to open which I appreciated. Having visited a ward in the Royal a week or two earlier and it being very toasty I appreciated the flexibility of having a single room from that perspective also.

In terms of food, the menu was lovely, although it was slightly difficult to order lunch/dinner with a low fat restricted diet (as having gallstones demands). However if you mentioned this to the nurses then they were happy to sort you out with something more suited to you.

Overall I had a great experience, despite the pain and the anticipation of surgery. I was looked after very well and couldn't have asked for better staff!

Dear Catriona,

Thank you so much for your positive feedback.

We are delighted you have recovered well and that you have had such a positive experience with us. Your feedback will be passed on to the teams that looked after you during your stay.

With specific reference to the special diets menu, we will take that on board and see how we can improve.

Kind regards,
