"Waiting times"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as a service user),

I've been waiting 19 weeks since my GP referred me for an ortho surgery appointment, disappointed that there is no correspondence telling you firstly that the referral was received (I had to email to find out) or any indication of the wait. Phoned today to find out what was happening and told to phone back in a few weeks if I've not heard. Appreciate the demand is high but an email or a text letting patients know what's going on would be helpful if waiting times are long.

Dear lupusbw78

I am sorry to read about the lack of correspondence regarding your referral and the waiting times for surgery.

I would like to be able to look into this further and provide you with an update on what you have raised here. So that I can do that, would you please email me at Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with some personal details? Can you also let me know which hospital you were referred to? I would be grateful if you could quote the reference: 457723.

Many thanks

Nicole

Dear lupusbw78

Thank you for your post on Care Opinion.

I am sorry that you have not received a date for your appointment but I can confirm that we have received your referral.

Unfortunately, we are experiencing a high volume of patients being referred to Orthopaedics which has led to increased waiting times. I appreciate the anxiety and distress that this is causing for patients. Please be assured that we are constantly reviewing our service to try minimise the waiting times for patients where possible.

We will send you an appointment letter 6 weeks before your appointment.

Kind Regards

Susan Groom

General Manager - Orthopaedics
