"Infection control practices"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Medical emergency assessment unit (MEAU)

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted to the MEAU ward. I was on this ward for 3 days where I saw severe understaffing ( until consultants rounds when loads of staff appeared) and infection control procedures which I felt were appaling.

The cleaning was poor because there was urine under the bed next to me for the time of my visit (3days). I also saw clear cross contamination risk exposed from a patient with gastroenteritis. The only time that I saw proper infection control practices followed were when the infection control lead was on the ward.

The water jugs (not lids) were changed washed in same sink and water as tea mugs and other items from different patients bed spaces. Just a poor experience. Having a working knowledge of infection control I did not eat or drink anything provided by the hospital.

Thank you for raising your concern with us. The standard of hygiene and care fall well below our expectations and your comments have been shared with the MEAU ward sister, Matron and the Infection Control Lead Nurse to ensure immediate action is taken. I will be visiting the ward today to ensure the improvements are in place.

Victoria Bagshaw

Deputy Chief Nurse
