"Very Positive Experience"

About: Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital

My daughter recently had surgery under one particular surgeon and one particular anaesthetist. Plus needed a follow up trip to A&E after catching the surgery site on her bag.

Due to several bad experiences at this hospital in the past, she was very frightened of not being listened too & her hEDS & her being used to pain, so reacts differently to most kids not been taken into account. We were also very concerned about the impact of anaesthetic on her B12 deficiency.

Not only did they listen properly, meaning she felt confident in speaking up for herself, they were very understanding of both conditions, something we’ve found to be very rare & unfortunately has created problems for us in the past.

Not this time, I cannot thank this surgeon and anaesthetist & the rest of the team enough for such a positive experience & fully taking on board the effect her medical conditions would have on this surgery. It’s gone a long way to improving her recovery & despite her hEDS potentially affecting scar tissue, this surgeon took such great care that the scar looks far better than we expected & already feels much better than pre surgery. The anaesthetist's fantastic understanding of how various anaesthetics impacts on both hEDS & B12, went a very long way to helping her feel relaxed & in great hands.

A follow up trip to A&E after catching her surgery site, again met with very knowledgeable doctors, who fully understood her hEDS & the impact that has on her reaction to pain & healing itself. This is unheard of for us here & we’ve had some very bad experiences that have left her very frightened/not trusting of this hospital, especially A&E. Panic attacks on the way in & refusal to go to A&E with injuries are something we’ve had to become used to because of this.

This whole experience has gone such a long way of curing her fear of this hospital, I cannot thank you all enough. You are all doing an amazing job in what are obviously difficult circumstances due to government cuts.

THANK YOU!!

Thank you, so very much, for taking the time to share your family's experience with us.

Your description of your daughter's care reflects all that families have the right to expect and I am so pleased that this visit has helped restore her confidence in our services.
